Increase fish production for socio-economic uplift’

Speakers at separate fish fry release ceremonies here on Sunday afternoon stressed for
increasing fish production to accelerate socio-economic uplifts in rural areas, side by side
meeting nutritional demand of the common people.
They were addressing the fish fry release ceremony arranged by Upazila Fisheries Office
at the Central Shwashan Ghat pond in Badarganj pourasabha town in the district with
Upazila Fisheries Officer Habibur Rahman Chowdhury in the chair.
Badarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khandker Ishtiaque Ahmed attended and addressed
the ceremony as the chief guest and released huge quantity of different variety fish firies
in the pond.
Vice-chairman of Badarganj upazila Rafikur Rahman and Mohsina begum, Senior Vicepresident of Upazila Awami League Shamsul Haque, Field Assistant of Upazila Fisheries
Office Moksedul Haque, also addressed the function.
The speakers narrated economic prospect of the fisheries sector and asked all concerned
for boosting fish production, side by side conserving water bodies and protecting natural
breeding grounds and stopping catch of smaller fishes.
They asked for preserving the extinct and indigenous fish species to increase fish
production for achieving economic self-reliance by rural people, including fishermen
community besides meeting nutritional demands.The chief guest said the country would become self-sufficient in fish production
through ensuring proper utilisation of water bodies, beels, haors and flood plains for fish
cultivation adopting latest technologies to ensure best use of existing natural resources. –
