Lightning kills four in BD as volatile transition to summer begins

Dhaka, Mar 31 (UNB) – Four people, including two minor sisters, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Habiganj, Kishoreganj and Moulvibazar districts on Sunday.

In Moulvibazar, two minor sisters died after a thunderbolt struck them at Patanushar village in Kaliganj upazila.

The deceased were identified as Sadia Akhter, 6 and Munni Akhter, 4, daughters of Junayed Mia of the village. 

The thunderbolt hit them around 9:30 am when the siblings were playing at their courtyard, leaving them severely injured, according to locals. 

The injured were rushed to Moulvibazar 250-bed hospital where doctor declared them dead. 

In Kishoreganj, a young farmer named Rabbi Mia died after being hit by a thunderbolt around 11:30 am at Nandirhat village in Itna upazila.

A thunderbolt struck him while he was cutting grassl, said officer-in-charge of Itna Police Station Md Morshed Zaman.

In Habiganj, Abdul Hamid, 60, son of Nimar Ali, was killed after being struck by lightning at Montail village in Lakhai upazila.
