Mainul sued under Digital Security Act in fresh case

Dhaka, Oct 24 – A new case was filed with the Cyber Tribunal under the Digital Security Act on Wednesday against former Caretaker Government Adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein, who was sent to jail on Tuesday, in a defamation case. Later, Tribunal Judge Mohammad Al-Shams Joglul Hossain ordered the respective Police Station to treat the appeal as a First Information Report (FIR).
Sumona Akter Lily, a member of the Awami League Sub-Committee for Youth and Sports Affairs, filed the case.
“The case has been filed under Sections 25 (2) and 29 of the Digital Security Act,” Lily told the Bangla Tribune.
On Tuesday, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka turned down Barrister Mainul Hosein’s bail plea in a case lodged over his remarks about journalist Masuda Bhatti during a talk-show.
A case was filed in a Rangpur court and the court issued a warrant of arrest for him, police said.
He was detained late on Monday from Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rab’s residence at Uttara in Dhaka and then Mainul Hosein was taken to the Detective Branch Office of Police.
Barrister Mainul is one of the sponsors of Gano Forum Chief Dr Kamal Hossain-led new alliance, Jatiya Oikya Front, consisting of the BNP, Gano Forum, JSD of A.S.M. Abdur Rab and Nagorik Oikya of Mahmudur Rahman Manna.
He has been facing criticism since October 16 for his remark about journalist Masuda Bhatti at a TV talk show in Ekattor Journal aired live on the Ekattor TV.
Barrister Mainul Hosein was Adviser of the Caretaker Government for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs during 2007 and 08 period. – Special Correspondent
