Shilpakala hosts instrumental music fest

Dhaka, Jan 1 – A 10-day National Instrumental Music Festival began on Monday at the Nandan Mancha of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).BSA organised the festival for the first time aiming to make new generations interested in the local musical instruments including protecting musical instruments and instrumental music and quality practices.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzamana Noor inaugurated the festival in the afternoon while BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the opening ceremony.
Work of collecting information has already being done in preparation for the publication of research books related to the Bengali culture and musical instruments, said the organisers.
Prominent guitar player Enamul Kabir was present at the ceremony as special guest while the teacher of the Government Music College and coordinator of festival Komal Khalid delivered the welcome speech.
Instrument players from four to seven districts are scheduled to perform every day in the festival from 4 pm to 9 pm during the festival. Orchestra by Moniruzzaman, district performances representing Chittagong, Rangpur, and Narayangonj, and orchestra by BMF troupe held on the opening day.
As part of the programme, a seminar titled ‘Bangla and musical instrument of Bangalee’ will be arranged held on January 6, 2018.
The festival will draw to an end on January 10. – UNB
