Suspected drug trader, criminal killed in ‘gunfights’

Dhaka, Nov 15 – A suspected Rohingya drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Ledar Churi in Teknaf Upazila early Friday. The deceased was identified as Nur Kabir, 28, son of Molaleb of Myanmar.
During regular patrolling, a team of BGB-2 challenged a group of people who were digging the earth in the area around 1 am, said Commanding officer of BGB-2 Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Faisal.
Sensing danger, the criminals opened fire on the BGB men, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.
At one stage, Nur Kabir was caught in the line of fire and suffered bullet wound while the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was taken to Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
The BGB men recovered one gun, two cartridges and 1.20 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets from the spot. – UNB
In another incident, an allegedly listed dacoit was killed in a reported gunfight with thana police near Shashanghat area under Telia in Shibpur Upazila of the district on November 14 midnight about 1.30 am.
The deceased dacoit was identified as Abdu Razzed 38 of Hanau village under Shipper Municipal area in Shibpur Upazila of Narsingdi district.
According to SI Monir of Shibpur thana told that acting on a tip of Shibpur thana police arrested listed dacoits Abdur Razzak from Dhanua area at evening on November 14 on his statement Shibpur thana police went to recovered armed and arrest his two associates. When police reached to Telia Shashanghat area Razzak’s associates tired to rescued Razzak from police custody and fire on the police team triggering a gunfight. After the skirmish Shibpur Thana police recovered Abdur Razzak body and sent it to Shibpur Upazila hospital where attending doctor declared him dead.
Police sent his body to Narsingdi Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. Three police personals were injured including SI Monir. Police also recovered one country-made gun and 5 round bullets from the spot. – Staff Reporter
