State of emergency in Ethiopia, 1600 held

Dhaka-The Ethiopian authorities have detained more than 1,600 people under the state of emergency, a government minister has told the BBC. A statement, quoted by state-affiliated FBC website, lists arrests in the Oromia and Amhara regions, which have recently seen massive demonstrations. Benapole – A fire broke out at No 23 shed of Benapole land port, the country’s largest land port, in Sharsha upazila early Sunday. Gazipur– A fire broke out at two spinning mills at Shafipur in Kaliakoir upazila early Sunday. Akhteruzzaman Liton, assistant director at Gazipur fire services, said the fire broke out from jhut godawn of recycling plant of ‘Shamim Spinning Mill’ of Jamuna Group around 5.15am. Al-Qaida branch in subcontinent on US terror list

Washington — The State Department is putting al-Qaida’s branch in the Indian subcontinent on its list of foreign terrorist groups.
