Two-day Road March demanding gas begins in Rangpur

The previously announced two-day divisional level Road March programme has begun here from Tuesday demanding supply of natural gas through
pipelines for quicker industrialization and uplift of Rangpur region.
Divisional unit of Samaj Paribartan O Unnayan Forum (SPUF) has been organising the Road March on May 20 and May 22 with a gap today (May 21).
Chief Patron of SPUF and Administrator of Kurigram District Council Major General (Retd) AMSA Amin at a ceremony inaugurated the Road March from Public Library ground in the city through leading a rally and seeing off the caravan.Adviser of divisional unit of SPUF Advocate MA Basher Tipu,
educationists Dr Swaswato Bhattacharya and Dr Tuhin Wadud, divisional unit President of SPUF SM Piyal, its Vice-president Engineer Rezaul Islam, addressed the occasion.General Secretary of divisional unit of SPUF Shahidul Islam Bablu, its Vice-president Masudar Rahman Masud, Joint Secretary Parimal Chandra, Treasurer Humayun Kabir Manik, Publicity Secretary Mominul Islam Ripan and General Secretary of its women unit Dr Noor-E-Hasin Disha spoke.While addressing the ceremony, leaders of SPUF justified their demand for supply of natural gas to Rangpur region for enhancing industrialisation, creating job opportunities for the unemployed youths to accelerate economic uplift. They said due to lack of gas supply, rate of poverty in Rangpur region is still 15 to 20 percent higher than in Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna regions.They said setting up of industries at Uttara Export Processing Zone (EPZ) is still to be completed for lack of gas supply that hinders industrialisation in the region and creation of employment.On the first day of the daylong Road March on Tuesday, a number of street rallies were arranged at Paglapeer, Taraganj, Syedpur, Uttara EPZ, Nilphamari, Debiganj, Ranir Bandar, Doshmile, Dinajpur,Thakurgaon and Panchagarh.On the second day tomorrow (May 22), street rallies will be arranged at Gaibandha, Polashbari, Pirganj, Shothibari, Mithapukur, Domdoma, Satmatha, Mirbag, Kawnia, Teesta, Rajarhat, Kurigram and Lalmonirhat. -BSS, Rangpur
