The matter was informed in a press statement by DGHS on Saturday.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has advised people to wear masks as a precautionary measure as a new Covid -19 variant -- JN.1-- has been increasing in several countries around the world.

The matter was informed in a press statement by DGHS on Saturday.

The statement says infections of the new Covid-19 variant JN.1 have increased in several countries. In this situation, it is advised to use masks as a precaution in high-risk areas such as hospitals, medical centres, and for individuals with low immunity.

High-risk individuals are also advised to take the fourth dose of the vaccine. The DGHS recommends Covid-19 testing only if symptoms or signs of Covid-19 are present during surgery or treatment of other diseases.

Previously, the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 had given the same advice. These recommendations were made after the committee's meeting on January 4.
