12 sailors rescued in Ctg


Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) and Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) rescued 12 sailors of a lighter ship ‘Khan Sons-1′ that sank in the bay at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port on Monday night.Of the rescued, four were rescued around 11pm last night while eight others were rescued till 10am today, said Captain Nazmul Alam, deputy conservator of Chittagong Port.

‘Khan Sons-1′, owned by Olympic Cement, sank in the bay along with its 12 sailors after a foreign ship ‘Great Scenery’ hit the lighter ship while it was unloading cement clinkers from the mother vessel ‘Shanta Brilliant’ at Alpha Anchorage of Chittagong Port around 10pm, CPA sources said.Immediately after the accident, a rescue tugboat of CPA and another
rescue ship of BCG rushed to the spot and rescued all 12 sailors of the damaged ship till 10am today, the sources added.(BSS)
