14 ethnic youths to get skill development training

Some 14 youths both male and female from the ethnic minority communities are going to receive skill development training in Rajshahi this year, development activists in a project orientation meeting here said on Wednesday.After getting the technical and vocational training, the beneficiaries will get scopes of being income generators, they added.Institute for Environment and Development (IED) under its ‘Empowerment and Capacity Building of Ethnic Minorities Project’ will impart the training in order to transform the unemployed youths into worthy citizens.IED organized the orientation meeting at Muktijoddha Pathagar with Proshanta Kumar Shaha, President of Jonouddyag, in the chair.Freedom Fighter Shajahan Ali Borjahan, former acting mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Shariful Islam Babu, Director of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sekendar Ali, IED Advocacy Officer Harendra Nath Sarker and its Fellow Andriash Biswash and Office Secretary of Jatiya Adibashi Parishad Subhash Chandra Hembrom spoke on the occasion.The discussants opined that the people of the ethnic communities need both national and local level policy support for elevating their living and livelihood condition as their cherished socioeconomic development couldn’t be possible without effective cooperation.Proshanta Shaha underlined the need for mainstreaming the ethnic unemployed youths for making them worthy citizens. He also called for undertaking an effective step to make them competent in all aspects especially literacy and social empowerment so that they could ensure their welfare.The government should adopt a long-term plan to solve problems of the region’s thousands of ethnic community people for their self-reliance and elevating their living and livelihood condition.Mr Shaha said the normal development programmes and approaches don’t yield the desired results as empowerment of the disadvantaged communities is very vital to make them aware about their rights.BSS, Rajshahi
