146 students receive stipends in Nilphamari

A total of 146 students of primary, secondary and higher secondary levels, who come from poor families, have received stipend in the district.RDRS Bangladesh, a local NGO, with financial support from Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSP) distributed Taka 7.38 lakh among the poor students to help them continue their study overcoming their financial hurdles.
Under a programme, the students of different educational institutions under Sadar, Syedpur, Domar, Dimla, Kishoreganj and Jaldhaka upazilas received the stipend since 2012, said a press release today.
As part of the programme, Taka 34,500 was distributed at a function in Nilphamari unit office of RDRS Bangladesh today. Nine JSC level students received Taka 2,500 each while every PSC level student out of six got Taka 2,000.
“My day-labourer father cannot bear my educational expenses due to financial crisis. I received stipend today, which will help me continue my study,” said class-nine student Kamini Akhter of Syedpur Islamia High School under Syedpur upazila.
Speaking at the function, Executive Vice-Chairman of Microcredit Regulatory Authority Amalendu Mukherjee urged the stipend recipients to ensure the best use of the money they received and devote themselves to study for becoming well-educated citizens.
Programme Coordinator of RDRS Bangladesh for Nilphamari KM Rashedul Arefin, its Programme Coordinator (Micro-Finance) Golam Mustafa and local public representatives were, among others, present, reports BSS, Nilphamari.
