1,500 farmers to come under e-Agro service in Jessore


Nearly 1,500 farmers of Jessore district would get chance to boost their production as they are going to come under e-Agro service.Farmers of seven upazilas of the district would get the mobile phone based services, as Grameen Intel Social Business Ltd (GISBL) and Rural Reconstruction Foundation (RRF) after teaming up have taken the initiative to provide the agri information at their doorsteps.To this end, the GISBL and RRF today inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Executive Director of RRF Philip Biswas and Chief Operating Officer of GISB Pavel Hoq put pen on the agreement at Grameen Intel’s office in the capital, said a press release here today.Under the agreement, RRF will lead the implementation of the services using their branch offices where the members as well as other farmers can come and receive agriculture and health related services for a lowest possible cost.Grameen Intel will provide technology related experience, research and expertise as technical partner and will assist in configuring the logic module, data repository and its e-Agro software to be used in existing RRF members as well as other farmers.
Philip Biswas said, “This project will immensely help farmers getting agri information at their doorsteps by using their mobile phones.”Pavel Hoq said, “RRF will be providing IT-based agricultural services to their beneficiaries in the seven upazilas of Jessore district through 20 branches using mrittika, Grameen Intel’s fertilizer recommendation software and we hope to be able to boost productions of about 1,500 farmers in those locations the coming season.” -BSS, Dhaka
