2 Bangladeshis killed in mortar attack on KSA from Yemen rebels


Two Bangladeshi nationals were killed and 12 others injured by mortar shells launched by Hauthi rebels of Yemen in Jizan, South Eastern province of Saudi Arabia (750 km away from Jeddah), on Friday morning.
As per initial report gathered through local Bangladesh community as well as the hospital sources, the attack was on a resident establishment in Samtah town, only 7 km away from the Yemen border, and both of the deceased were cleaning workers of Samtah General Hospital.
The deceased are Baten Miah, son of Mohon Miah of Gulpakuria village in Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria, and Nurul Hoque of Kamanna in Kalihati upazila of Tangail.
Among the injured Bangladeshis, 6/7 were released from the hospital after primary treatment and the other injured have been admitted to the hospital.
Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah is closely monitoring and following the situation. Representative of Consulate General is on the way to visit the spot to get the details and will visit the hospital to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
The Consulate General will also coordinate with the employers to send back the mortal remains and/or to arrange its burial in the KSA in line with the desire of the family members of the victims, as well as for realisation of due compensation. – UNB
