3 alleged human traffickers held, 17 rescued in city


Members of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) separate drives arrested three suspected human traffickers from Ashkona of Dakkhin Khan and Fakirerpol areas in the city on Sunday night. DB officials said they also rescued 17 victims during the drive.
The arrested suspected human traffickers are –Gulam Rabbani, Shahadat Hossain and Shafiqul Islam.
Briefing reporters at DMP media centre on Monday, Deputy Commissioner (DB-North) Sheikh Nazmul Alam said a DB team conducted a raid at a residential hotel of Ashkona on Sunday mid night following a specific allegation from a victim named Kabir Ahmed.The detectives arrested Gulam Rabbani and Shahadat Hossain alias Masud and rescued 17 vistims from the hotel, the DC (Db-North ) said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, managing director of GLC private Ltd Mahmudur, its manager Babul Hossain and cashier Mahfuzur Rahman and three others employees fled from the scene.
Nazmuil said employees of GLC Private Ltd of Malibagh allured the victims to give lucrative jobs in the Republic of Palau.
Palau is an island country located in the western Pacific Ocean. It is geographically part of the larger island group of Micronesia. The islands share maritime boundaries withIndonesia, the Philippines, and the Federated States of Micronesia.
The 18 victims, including Kabir Ahmed, gave Tk 7 lakh each to the company. The victim were kept in the residential hotel to fly for Palau on Sunday night, the DC (DB-North) said.
Kabir informed about the matter to the detectives as none was given flight on Sunday night.
Later, another DB team raided Fakirerpol area on the Sunday late night and arrested Shafiqul Islam following the complained of the rescued victims. – News Desk
