3 ‘JMB men’ put on 5-day fresh remand in Ctg


A court here on Tuesday placed the three students of Chittagong University suspected of being members of banned militant group Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on a five-day fresh remand in two cases.Judicial Magistrate Mosaddeque Minhaz passed the order after police produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand for each of them.Those remanded are Naimur Rahman Nayan, Faisal Mahmud and Shawkat Russell.On December 26, police arrested Nayan from Kazir Deury while Faisal from Nalapara and Shawkat from Cosmopolitan area of the district.On the following day, sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police filed two cases against the three suspected JMB men under arms and explosive substances acts.Later, the trio was put on a five-day remand in one case.On December 29, Chittagong University authorities expelled the three students for their alleged link to the banned militant outfit.Of them, Naimur Rahman Nayan was a fourth-year student of Physics department, and Faisal Mahmud and Shawkat Russell were master’s degree students of the department. (UNB)
