3 placed on 10-day remand in N’ganj abduction-murder case


A court here on Thursday placed three people arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of seven people on a 10-day remand. Senior Judicial Magistrate Monowara Begum passed the order when police produced them before her court. Those who were remanded are Mintu, Tipu and Momina. Earlier in the day, plain-clothes police arrested the trio from Kararchar village in Shibpur uapzila of Narsingdi around noon. Police had earlier arrested 16 people from the house of city Awami League leader and Narayanganj City Corporation councillor Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven-murder case, during a three-hour drive on Saturday. Another man was arrested on the same day along with a mobile phone set used by lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker. However, Nur Hossain could not be arrested till Thursday. On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka. Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30. Besides, another body, believed to be of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on May 1. – UNB
