4 ‘hired criminals’ held with firearms in city


Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested four alleged ‘hired killers’ along with three firearms, ammunition and knives from Mirpur area in the city early Thursday.
The arrestees are Sheikh Akbar Ali, 36, Rana Shiekh, 23, Khandker Sohel Rana, 33, and Md Babul Hawlader, 45.
Sources at the Rab-4 said the arrestees had a plan to kill Khulna area leader of outlawed ‘Puba Banglar Communist party’ Shimul Biswash and Mithu chairman.Tipped-off, a team of Rab-4 launched a drive in a flat of Arambagh area under Rupnagar police station in Mirpur at about 4:45 am and arrested the four suspected ‘hired killers’.
During the drive, the crime busters also recovered three foreign made pistols, 21 ammunitions, three knives and some magazines.
During preliminary interrogation, the ‘criminals’ revealed that they had been involved in killing of people in exchange of money.
They also said that they were hired to kill ‘Purba Banglar Communist party’ leaders Shimul Biswash and Mithu chairman. One Anik alias Bellal hired them through absconding accused Nadim alias Habib to kill the two outlawed leaders.
They are accused in a number of cases, including murders, filed with different police stations in Khulna. – News Desk
