A total of 531 houses, including 24 shanties of a slum, were burned to ashes in a fire in the city’s Hazaribagh area on Thursday night.
Nilufar Yasmin, a duty officer at the Fire Service Control Room, said the fire originated from a shanty of ‘Hazaribagh Slum’ around 8:54pm
on Thursday and it soon engulfed the adjoining houses.
She said 15 units of firefighters doused the flame at about 10:30 pm after around two hours of fanatic efforts.
However, there is no report of any casualty and injury in the fire, and the extent of damages in it could not yet be estimated.
Meanwhile, the Fire Service Department formed a body to probe the incident. – UNB
