Woman’s floating body recovered near Mawa Ferry Ghat


Police recovered the body of a woman from Kandirpar area adjacent to Mawa ferry ghat in Munshiganj district on Saturday evening.
The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Police has initially suspected that the deceased might be a passenger of the ill-fated launch which had capsized in the Padma River on February 23.Locals spotted the body lying on the shore of the Padma in the area and informed police, said Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Lauhajang police station. Police recovered the body around 6.00pm.
Later police informed Shibalaya upazila administration about the recovery of the body as the scene falls within the upazila.
Galib Khan, upazila nirbahi officer of Shibalaya upazila, said they have contacted families of the missing passengers of the capsized launch.
Earlier on February 23, a launch carrying over 150 passengers, sank in the mid-river around 11:45 am after it was hit by a fertiliser-laden cargo vessel, ‘Nargis-1’, while it was heading towards Daulatdia ferry ghat from Paturia. – UNB
