State Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed today said the ministry will issue smart cards to around 6,000 orphan Rohingya children for taking responsibilities to provide their food, shelter and other basic needs.
“Orphan Rohingya children up to 18-year will be given separate smart cards to provide them foods, shelter and other facilities.. . Some 120 workers of Social Welfare Ministry are working in this regard,” he told a press conference at the ministry meeting room at Secretariat.
Social Welfare Secretary Md Zillar Rahman and Managing Director of Social Services Department Gazi Mohammad Nurul Kabir were present on the occasion.
The state minister assured to manage 400 acres of land in Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas from the district administration for the children.
“Databases of around 2,000 orphan Rohingya children have already been made through Google forms and the database of all children will be completed within seven days,” he said, adding that quality foods will be given to those children.
Nuruzzaman said the incumbent government has been nurturing as many as 33,000 orphan children through 132 children and juvenile institutions.
