25 teachers resign in row over classroom shortage at JU


Twenty five teachers of Geological Sciences, Computer Sciences and Engineering departments of Jahangirnagar University (JU) resigned today (Saturday) protesting the handover of 3rd floor of the building to Environmental sciences department by the syndicate of Jahangirnagar University (JU).The teacher and students of two departments have continuing hunger strike unto death protesting the syndicate decision and demanding allotment of the sapce to them.
The teachers of Geological Sciences deptt.who have resigned are: Prof Dr. Delowar Hossain, Prof Dr. A.T.M Shakhawat Hossain, Prof Dr. Sharif Hossain Khan, Associate Prof Mahfuzul Haque, Associate Prof Emdadul Haque, Assistant Prof Mazeda Islam, Assistant Prof Md. Hasan Imam, Lecturer Md. Shakhawat Hossain and Lecturer Mahmuda Khatun.
CSE teachers who have resigned are syndicate member Professor Hanif Ali, chairman of the department Professor Md Sharif Uddin, Professor Imdadul Islam, Professor Md Golam Moyajjem, Prof. Jugal Krishna, Prof.Akram Hosssain, Prof. Zahidur Rahaman, Associate Professor Md Humayun Kabir, Israt Zahan, Abu Sayeed Md Mustafizur Rahman,Golam Mozzaum, Lecturer Swarnali Bosak, Tanjila Rahman and Tahsina Hassan.
Khandakar Fattahun Nahar Cherry, a student of Geological Sciences who is observing hunger strike said they will continue their movements till allotment of the third floor for them.
Assistant Prof.Mazeda Islam, chairman of Geological sciences said that their department has only two lab rooms while twelve labs are required for continuing regular classes.
This class room crisis has also hampered the regular activities of the computer science and engineering department, chairman of the department prof.Sharif Uddin said. – JU Correspondent
