9 girls back after 2 yrs in Indian jail

Members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday handed over
nine Bangladeshi girls to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after they
served two years’ jail term in that country.They returnees are: Priya Akter, 15, Tanjina Khatun, 13, Anu Khatun,
14, Masuda Khatun, 16, Riyanka Khatun, 14, Sharifa Khatun, 18, Ratna
Khatun, 13, Ruma Khatun, 20, and Halima Khatun,15, hailing from
several parts of Khulna and Barisal districts.
Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Benapole immigration police, said
the nine girls had intruded into India through several border points
two years back.
Indian police arrested them from Mumbai on charge of living there
illegally and sent them to jail there.
After completion of their two years’ imprisonment, Indian government
decided to repatriate them following exchange of letters between the
two countries several times.
BSF handed over them to BGB after completion of necessary formalities
by the home ministries of both countries.
Later BGB handed over them to the local authorities of Bangladesh
Women Lawyers Association (BWLA) for sending them to their families.
