Accused confesses to Garo woman rape


An accused in the Garo woman gang-rape case yesterday (Thursday) made confessional statement to a Dhaka court admitting his involvement in the incident.
Magistrate SM Ashiqur Rahman of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka recorded the confessional statement of Ashraf Khan alias Tushar. After the confessional the court sent Tushar to the jail.Earlier, on May 28, Magistrate Amit Kurmar Dey of the CMM Court placed accused Tushar and driver Lavlu on a ten-a 10-day remand each to quiz in the case. Defence lawyer Faruque Ahmad sought bail of the accusesd rejecting the remand prayer.
Besides, three eyewitnesses in the case, testified in the case. They are Nurul Alam, Mahbub Hossain Khokon Sarder. Magistrates Maruf Hossain, Hasibul Haque and Masud Zaman recorded their depositions. Accused Tushar was arrested from Kuakata of Kalapara under Patuakhali while Lablu was held from Guloshan-1 of the capital.
The woman mentioned in the complaint she submitted to Bhatara Police Station that the accused abducted her from Kuril area of the Police Station at gun point while she was trying to get in a bus at about 9.30 pm on May 21. They took her in a microbus and all five miscreants including the driver gang-raped her. Later, the accused driver dropped the woman on Jasimuddin Road. – Court Correspondent
