ADB to help develop BD’s ICT sector


Dhaka: Asian Development Bank (ADB) will initiate a project in Bangladesh for the development of ICT sector in order to produce skilled manpower and build its digital capacity.
The ADB will assist the proposed project involving US$ 250 million. The project will be implemented from 2017 to 2022 in nine universities under the supervision of the University Grants Commission (UGC). UNB News Agency Reported.
The nine universities are Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Jahangirnagar University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Islamic University of Technology, East West University, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, BRAC University and Daffodil International University.
To discuss the proposed project, UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan sat in a meeting with the vice-chancellors of the universities and representatives from ADB and Bangladesh High Tech Park authority on Monday at the UGC Bhaban in the city.
During the meeting, the UGC Chairman, vice-chancellors and others participants of the meeting talked to officials at the ADB headquarters in Manila, Philippines through videoconferencing.
Prof Mannan said the successful implementation of the project will play a significant role in human resource development, employment generation, capacity building of universities and curriculum development, said a UGC release.
