Kishoreganj – BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said Awami League will never return to power if fair elections are held in the country.
“Awami League is a fascist party and it doesn’t believe in democracy. This party will never be able to return to power if fair elections are held in the country,” he said. UNB news agency reported
The BNP leader made the remark while addressing the biennial council of Kishoreganj district BNP at a community centre in the district town.
He said the ruling party is now conspiring to cling to power forever as it has realised that people will not vote it in a free and fair election.
Fakhrul said their party is repeatedly calling upon the government to engage in discussions as it is sincere to give the country’s democracy an institutional shape. “But, unfortunately they aren’t paying heed to it.”
Referring to recent attacks on Hindus in Brahmanbaria and Santals in Gaibandha, he said people have now lost their religious freedom, too. “The people of all religions are being oppressed.”
He also said Awami League is giving people false information about the country’s development. “But, there’s been no development of the lives of farmers, workers and common people.”
The BNP leader also alleged that the ruling party has turned the country into a ‘rogue state’ through its repressive acts, misdeeds and misrule.
BNP vice-chairman Mohammad Shahjahan inaugurated the council around 12 noon participated by several hundred BNP leaders and activists.
