AL MPs for sedition charge against Khaleda, Tarique

Senior lawmakers of the ruling Awami League (AL) on Thursday strongly criticised BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, her elder son Tarique Rahman for their recent remarks terming Ziaur Rahman as country’s “first” president and Bangabandhu as first “illegal” prime minister.
Taking part in general discussion on thanks-giving motion on President’s address, they demanded lodging sedition charge against the former premier and her elder son for the sake of independence and sovereignty of the country.
The ruling party leaders also called for enacting new law, if necessary, to stop making derogatory remarks against the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.Minister for Commerce Tofail Ahmed termed Tarique’s remarks against Bangabandhu as a merciless crime saying that their should be a limit of showing audacity.
He termed Tarique as stupid and questioned him whether his father (Zia) was an elected representative.
“Were your father is an elected representative? He became tired addressing us as “Sir”,” he said.
Tofail alleged that Pakistan engaged in hatching conspiracy against the country while the ISI is distorting the history.
He demanded completion of August 21 grenade attack case immediately.
The AL leader criticized the media to broadcast news of a fugitive accused like Tarique with importance.
AL leader Suranjit Sengupta urged the law minister to lodge sedition charge against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and concerned BNP leaders for their remarks on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with a view to protecting country’s independence and sovereignty.
“Khaleda, her son and some of their party leaders made treasonable offense by passing comments against Bangabandhu violating the constitution. Sedition charge should be lodged against them to protect the existence of independence and sovereignty of the country,” he said.
Suranjit suggested the law minister that sedition charge could be lodged against Khaleda, Tarique Rahman and BNP leaders in accordance with penal code but he (minister) can enact new law to bring them into book.
“They (BNP leaders) have violated the constitution and they should be tried now on; otherwise the nation has to pay in long run,” he added.
The AL leader said the matter that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the father of the nation is a settle issue and in accordance with the proclamation of independence he is the first elected President of the country.
“Those will not will ignore the proclamation of independence be contrary to violation of the constitution and those will ignore this will have no right to stay in the country,” he added.
He termed the comments of Khaleda, Tarique Rahman on Bangabandhu as political conspiracy against independence and sovereignty.
Minister for Health Mohammad Nasim also urged the law minister to enact new law in line with the constitution to stop making derogatory remarks against Bangabandhu.
He described Khaleda and his son Tarique Rahman illiterate and called upon the nation to leave them for their remarks against Bangabandhu.
Nasim called upon the BNP chairperson to stop her son to make derogatory remarks against Bangabandhu.
The AL leader the next parliamentary election would be held in 2019 in same methodology in accordance with the constitution.
Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Mujibul Haque, Sagupta Yasmin and Atiur Rahman Atik also took part in the discussion. – Staff Reporter
