AL unmasks itself by threatening Govt officials: Fakhrul


Dhaka – Acting Secretary General of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said Awami League leader Mohammad Nasim unveiled the musk of the government by threatening the public servants to send them back home if they failed to obey the government’s orders.
“What they will say during the elections, when they are speaking in this language right now?” he questioned while addressing a discussion meeting on life and works of late journalist Ataus Samad at the National Press Club.
Organised by Bangladesh Muktijoddah Gano-Parishad, the meeting was held with its president Istique Aziz Ulfat in the chair.
Fakhrul warned the government not to play with the fate of the people and their democratic rights and vowed to protect country’s independence and sovereignty at any cost.
He regretted that an old political party like the ruling Awami League is now engaged in taking the freedom fighters into the custody of court do not hesitate to dishonour renowned people like Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Mohammad Yunus only to cling to power.
“They (AL) have chosen the path as they have no capability to deal with the situation politically,” he said adding that they had done it also from 1971 to 1975.
The BNP leader said the AL has turned into a totally bankrupt political party and cannot tolerate true statements.
He said the AL has created the political instability in the country to jeopardise the country politically and economically.
Fakhrul Also accused the government of hatching conspiracy nationally and internationally to destroy the garments industries in the country.
He said journalist Ataus Samad did not belong to any party but to the nation.
“He (Samad) always said whatever was needed for the country. Pretty interest and lust could not deviate him from his thinking. He never compromised with his conscience. We are feeling his presence more under the present situation prevailing in the country,” the BNP leader mentioned.
Dr Jafrullah Chowdhury, founder trustee of Gano-Shastha Kendra, journalists Shafique Rehman, Shawkat Mahmud Abdul Hye Sikder, took part in the meeting. – Staff Reporter
