An evening of Rabindra Sangeet in Gulshan

Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) organised an evening of Rabindra Sangeet by Himadri Shekhor Talukder and Shimu Dey on May 7 at the IGCC, Gulshan in the city.

The artistes were accompanied by Binod Roy Das on keyboard, Pallab Sanyal on tabla, Ebadul Huq Shaikat on sitar and Mehedee Islam Anup on octopad.

Tagore songs were rendered along with the original tunes of Indian Classical Music or other Old Bengali or foreign songs which influenced Tagore to compose his songs.

They rendered—- Ananadadhara Bohiche Bhubone, Maharaj Eki Sajhe, Kar Milono Chao Birohi, Tumi Kon Kanoner Ful, Ghorete Bhromor Elo Gunguniye, Oi Dekha Jai Bari Amar, Bhenge Mor Ghorer Chabi, Fule Fule Dhole Dhole, Kali Kali Bolo Re Aj, O Amar Desher Mati and Khachar Vitor Ochin Pakhi.

Himadri Shekhor Talukder completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music with specialization in Rabindra Sangeet from the Viswa Bharati University in Shantiniketan. He has performed at prominent musical concerts both in India and Bangladesh such as at the Kolkata Bangla Music Festival, Tagore Birth Anniversary celebrations at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata, Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Utsav in Pondicherry, “Bishshe Bangalee” – A Musical Soiree as part of the 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations at Birla Sadan in Kolkata etc. Mr. Talukder has also been selected as a representative artist from Bangladesh for the year-long joint celebrations of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore between India and Bangladesh. He is a regular performer for Bangladesh TV and Radio, as also for private television channels. He has released 2 Solo and 2 Duet CDs, one by HMV-Saregama, Kolkata. He is a Part Time Lecturer in Rabindra Sangeet at the Shanto Marium University of Creative Technology in Dhaka.

Shimu Dey, is an enlisted artist of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television. Having completed her Masters in Rabindra Sangeet, Shimu has received many gold medals from the Jatiyo Shiksha Shoptaho; Anonno Maan Award from Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Sammelon Porishod 2003, Gold Medal for outstanding performance in Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti from Jatiyo Russel Shishu Kishore Competition 2004, Konika Bandopaddhay Special Award 2004, Shrestho Maan in Rabindra Sangeet from the Bengal Foundation and Uttom Maan in Adhunik Songs from the Bengal Foundation.
