Another student, who was injured in the explosion at the hostel of Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasah in the port city on October 7, succumbed to his injuries at a public hospital in the capital on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Nurunnabi, 26, a student of Chittagong Polytechnic Institute. Shahidullah, additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), said Nurunnabi died at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 5pm after fighting for life for six days. Earlier, two other victims of the explosion succumbed to their wounds at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. They were Habibur Rahman and Zubayer Ahmed. On October 7, five students, including Zubayer, Habibur and Nurunnabi, sustained burn injuries in a ‘mysterious’ explosion inside a room on the 1st floor of the four-storey hostel of the madrasah at Lalkhan Bazar in the city. Later, police conducted a drive at the hostel of the madrasah, run by Hefajat-e-Islam nayeb-e-ameer Mufti Izharul Islam, and recovered several unexploded grenades. On October 9, Khulshi police arrested Izhar’s son Harun and Zunayed from Isapur area of Hathazari upazila following two separate cases filed in connection with the blast. – UNB
