Anti-kidnapping squad arrests 5 suspects

A special squad of police arrested five suspected members of a kidnapping gang, including a woman, a spokesman said on Monday.
The “Anti-kidnapping Squad” under Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan police made the arrests from Mirpur in the capital and Raigonj in Sirajgonj on Sunday.
They also recovered Tk 1 lakh, which was collected as ransom, two handcuffs and seductive medicines from their possessions.The suspects were identified as ring leader Md Rezaul, Sheuly Akhter alias Shilpy, Anwar Hossain, Abdus Samad and Mortuza.
Briefing reporters at DMP media centre on Monday, DMP’s spokesperson and also Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam said the kidnapping syndicate members picked up a hotel trader alluring him with women from Turagh on April 30 last month.
Later, they forcibly took objectionable photographs of the man with Shilpi, he said.
The gangsters released the trader after taking Tk 12 lakh as ransom from his family members introducing themselves as the DB police on May 7.
Later a case was filed with Turagh police station in this regard, Joint Commissioner Monir added.
Te DMP spokesperson said that around 63 complaints were received by the Anti-kidnapping squad since its formation on May 3 this month.
So far 15 victims were rescued in 28 complaints, he added.
Besides, 44 victims were rescued by the DB police after getting 59 complains in April last month, Monir said. – UNB
