Amanullah Aman sent to jail, MK Anwar gets bail

Separate courts of Dhaka on Sunday sent BNP leader Amanullah Aman to jail in 56 cases filed for arson attacks and vandalism during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s blockade and shutdown (Hartal) programme, while senior BNP leader MK Anwar was allowed bail in seven cases.
Ten Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka and the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court of Dhaka and Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge’s Court   sent the BNP leader to jail rejecting his bail petitions in 56 cases after he surrendered to the courts in 71 cases on Sunday morning.Of the 71 cases, Aman was granted bail in seven cases filed with Paltan, Motijheel, Jatrabari, Khilgaon and Savar Police Stations while the hearing in eight more cases was deferred as the case documents were not produced to the concerned courts.
Meanwhile, four Metropolitan Magistrate Courts granted bail to senior BNP leader MK Anwar in seven cases filed for arson attack and vandalism with Khilgaon, Paltan, Motijheel and Jatrabari Police Stations. Magistrates Ashoke Kumar Dutta, Aminul Haque, Asaduzzaman Nur and Tarek Mainul Islam Bhuiya passed the orders after the senior BNP leader surrendered to their courts on completion of his four-week bail granted by the High Court Division of the Supreme Court earlier.
Besides, hearing on the bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo in a case filed with Paltan Police Station was deferred as the concerned case document was produced to the court. Earlier, three BNP leaders MK Anwar, Abdul Awal Mintoo and Amanullah Aman surrendered to the respective courts in the cases filed for arson attacks and vandalism.
On July 27, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court directed the three BNP leaders to surrender to the respective subordinate courts within a week in the cases.
Pro-BNP lawyers including Sanaullah Mia, Masud Ahmed Talukder and Golam Mostafa Khan moved the bail petitions on be half the three leaders while senior Public Prosecutors vehemently opposed the BNP leaders’ bail pleas.- Special Correspondent
Earloier, senior BNP leaders MK Anwar, Abdul Awal Mintoo and Amanullah Aman surrendered before separate Dhaka courts in separate cases for arson attacks and vandalism.
Anwar, Aman and Mintoo surrendered on Sunday morning seeking bail in 89 violence cases against them where Anwar is accused in ten cases, Mintoo in nine cases and Aman in seventy cases.The hearings in these cases will be held at noon in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court.
Earlier on July 27, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court ordered senior BNP leaders MK Anwar, Abdul Awal Mintoo and Amanullah Aman to surrender before the lower court within one week in separate cases for arson attacks and vandalism. – UNB
