Arrest warrants issued against 13 Bagerhat war crime suspects

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Saturday issued arrest warrants against 13 suspects of Bagerhat district for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.The three-member tribunal, led by Justice M Anwarul Haque, passed the order following a petition by the prosecution.
The tribunal ordered the police station concerned to arrest the 13 suspects and produce them before the tribunal.
The prosecution claimed to have found evidence of their involvement in crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.
After getting the warrants, several team of Bagerhat police and Khulna police conducted separate drives in different areas of the districts and arrested four of the war crime suspects in the afternoon.
The arrestees are Khan Akram Hossain, of Teligati village, Idris Ali Mollah of Jessoredi village, M Makbul Mollah of Udankhali village in Kachua upazila, and Sheikh Mohammad Ukiluddin of Chari village in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat.
They will be produced before the tribunal soon, said Bagerhat additional superintendent of police M Helal Uddin, who is also the investigation officer of the case.
According to the prosecution, seven allegations, including mass killing, torture, rape, looting, abduction and arson, were found against 13 people of Kachua and Morelganj upazilas.
