Dhaka – President of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh Prof Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Friday called upon the Prime Minister to take measures to hold the forthcoming elections under caretaker government by refraining from what he termed BAKSAL style polling.
“All the opposition parties will resist the elections if called without amending the Constitution by October 24,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting at party’s Presidium Office at Baridhara to mark his 83rd birth anniversary.
B Chowdhury, who is also a former President of the country, alleged that the Prime Minster brought amendment to the Constitution by killing the democracy for her own interest.
“The Prime Minister wants to hold an election under a blue print and in a BAKSAL style keeping the party people in the cabinet. But the people will never accept such election,” he said.
He said if the Prime Minister wants to probe herself as a pro-democratic leader she has to hold the election under caretaker government after brining an amendment to the Constitution.
“Otherwise, he cautioned, all the opposition parties will compel the government through movement to hold the election under a caretaker administration.”
The Bikalpadhara leader called upon all concerned to create greater unity to protect the country from disaster.
Bikalpadhara secretary general Major (Retd) Abdul Mannan, presidium member Prof Dr Nurul Amin Bepari, Prof Abu Mozaffar Ahmed, Mahi B Chowdhury, Abdur Rahim, Dr Kazi Kamal, Mahbub Ali and Asaduzzaman Bacchu, among others, also addressed the function.
Earlier, party leaders and activists greeted B Chowdhury by offering wraths to mark his birth anniversary. – Staff Reporter
