Bangabandhu Gold Cup: U23s finish bottom with loss to Cambodia


Bangladesh Olympic team (Bangladesh U-23) finished the fourth Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament campaign conceding a solitary goal defeat against visiting Cambodia in their Group-B last match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) here on Friday.Cambodia also finished their tournament journey with the consolation win placing third.After the day’s result, Cambodia secured three points from three matches with the one win and two losses while Bangladesh U23 team collected one point from as many matches with one draw and two losses.After the barren first half in the day’s math, Cambodian midfielder Dina Tit broke the deadlock in the 71st minute scoring the match winning goal. Forward Vandeth Son delivered a pass from the top of the box to Dina Tit who went past Bangladesh U23 defenders and placed the ball deceiving goalie Ziaur Rahman, 1-0. In the stopgap time, Bangladesh U23 substitute forward Toklis Ahmed delivered a cross from the right flank straight to six-yard box, but Cambodian defender cleared the ball before Bangladesh U23 players reach the ball.Forward Aminur Rahman Sojib flicked a right footer in the 63rd minute denying Cambodian defenders from goalmouth which went out edging the left post off a through pass.
Cambodian goalie Seri Rath Um saved his side in the stopgap time of the first half. Bangladesh midfielder Rubel Miya took a powerful right footer shot from the right flank which was gripped by goalie Seri Rath Um. In the 35th minutes forward Aminur Rahman Sojib spoiled an opportunity as his right footer shot from the top box went edging the left post.Bangladesh U23 and Cambodia made some attacks and counter attacks in the first 30 minutes of the match, but all of those were unsuccessful.
