BNP claims ruling party violates election code of conducts


BNP yesterday alleged that the congenial atmosphere for the forthcoming municipality polls is being destroyed due to violation of electoral code of conducts by the government ministers and ruling party lawmakers.BNP chairperson’s adviser Shamsuzzaman Dudu made the allegation while addressing a press conference at chairperson’s Gulshan office.
“The government ministers, ruling party MPs and high officials are frequently violating the electoral code of conducts. Resulting in violence has been taking places at different election areas foiling of congenial atmosphere the polls,” he said.
The BNP leader the Election Commission has already expressed its helplessness to the Prime Minister seeking her intervention.
“Holding of a free and fair election is possible, it the commission discharge its duty sincerely,” he said.
Dudu presented as catalogue of attacks by ruling party candidates and their supporters against the BNP-backed candidates in different areas in the country including Dhamrai, Gobindaganj, Chouddagram, Chandina, Laksam, Bogra, Munshiganj and Rangamati.
He alleged that despite taking up the complaints by the BNP leaders, the EC has failed to take any effective measures to stop all the attacks and harassments.
Referring to the comments of Prime Minister’s special envoy HM Ersahd that the votting of municipal election would complete by 9:00am, he said he does not know whether Ershad was carrying the message of the Prime Minister since he is a part of PMO.
He requested the PMO to clarify the statement of the Jatiya Party chairman since he is also a part of the government.
Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, among others, was also present at the press conference.
