BNP plans to hold a rally in the city to mark the 2nd anniversary of January 5 general polls.
The party has already sought permission from the police authority to hold its planned rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Tuesday.BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir told reporters that they sent a letter to Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Thursday  seeking permission to hold the rally.
Meanwhile, the party convened a joint meeting of its senior leaders this morning at party central office to discuss the preparation for making the rally a success.
Party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will preside over the meeting.
The BNP observed the first anniversary of the January 5 election with violent programmes, including non-stop blockades and hartals, that left over 100 people killed and injured many others early this year. Though there was no formal announcement to end the non-stop blockade programme, it eventually petered out with the return of Khaleda Zia to her residence from her Gulshan office where she had been confined by the government for 92 days.
