BNP yesterday put emphasis on the need for launching fresh movement to restore democracy.“We have to launch fresh movement to restore democracy and rights that we lost. We will protect our culture, independent and sovereignty through the movement,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He was addressing a discussion meeting at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium to mark the International Mother Langue Day.
The BNP leader said the country’s people are living in a suppocative atmosphere and their voices are being suppressed.
“We are not allowed to speak and hold rallies; we are not given permission for venue to our conference. And we are going ahead though such a situation,” he alleged.
Fakhrul, who also presided over the meeting, said BNP has no alternative but to go forward following the path of late President Ziaur Rahman.
He called upon the party leaders and activists to pledge for restoring the rights in exchange of any sacrifice.
Standing committee member Dr Khondaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, Imam Ahmed Chowdhury, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
