BNP seeks justice for rape-murder victim Anushka

Dhaka, Jan 14 – Nari O Shishu Odhikar Forum, a platform of BNP, on Thursday evening demanded justice for Mastermind School student Anushka Nur Amin, who recently died allegedly after rape in the city’s Dhanmondi area, by lighting more than a hundred candles. Several hundred BNP leaders and activists joined the programme in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office arranged by Nari O Shishu Odhikar Forum in protest against the killing, rape and the violence against women and children across the country, including the murder of Anushka.
They stood in front of the BNP office holding burning candles and placards inscribed with different slogans against rape and repression on women and the killing of Anushka.
On January 7, O-level student Anushka was raped in the house of her friend Fardin Iftekhar Dihan. She reportedly died from bleeding profusely after rape.
Speaking at the programme, BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy voiced anger over the death of rape victim Anushka.
He said it is regrettable that Anushka’s mother said her security is now at stake as she sought justice for the murder of her daughter. “The country can’t run in this way.”
Gayeshwar urged the government to take proper steps so that justice is ensured for Anushka’s family.
The BNP leader said the incidents of rape and violence against women cannot be stopped for lack of a representative and responsible government in the country.
“The government has no responsibility to people and it is least bothered about people’s like and dislike. Their only goal is to appease the neighbouring country to stay in power,” he added.
Gayeshwar called upon all to raise their voice and get ready to take to the streets to overcome the current situation of the country. – UNB
