BNP showdown on Khaleda’s court appearance Thursday

BNP has decided to stage showdown in the city on Thursday as party chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before the special court set up at Dhaka Alia Madrasha Ground in charge of Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Cherritable Trust cases, according to party leaders.
The decision has been taken at a closed door meeting of the BNP held at party headquarters yesterday. The court appearance has been seen from a new perspective as the government has of late changed the court’s judge on its own. The BNP chairperson had moved the High Court to change the judge but failed. The government had done the change. And apparently BNP leaders and workers are taking this with a grain of salt.
Insiders said thousands of party leaders and activists would stage showdown at court area and adjacent areas on the day.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held the meeting with senior leaders of city unit of the party and its front organisations at the direction of chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The meeting also decided that they would resist any move of law enforcing agencies to obstruct them to stage the showdown.
City BNP convenor Mirza Abbas, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Moazzem Hossain Alal, Saiful Alam Nirob and Noor-e-Ara Safa, among others, were preent at the meeting.
Meanwhile, a secretary level meeting of the BNP-led 20-party alliance will be held at 12:00pm today to discuss the latest development in the political arena and strategies to take preparation for the anti-governement movement.
Earlier on Saturday, a delegation of Islami Chhatra Shibir led by central Literatural Secretary Yasin Arafat called on Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at BNP chairperosn’s Gulshan office.
The delegation handed over some publications of Chhatra Shibir, the student front of Jamaat-e-Islami, to the BNP leader. – Staff Reporter
