BNP to hold peaceful rallies Feb 8: AL prepares to resist


Dhaka, 04 Feb – The BNP will take to the streets and organise peaceful rallies across the country on February 8 slated for delevering court verdict in Zia orphanage trust graft case of party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party standing committee held at chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan political office last night, according to meeting sources. The student and youth associates of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League on the other hand held meetings at different wards of Dhaka city on the day to resist rallies the opposition BNP.
The hourlong meeting began at 9:15pm was informed that the former premier will hold a press conference on February 7, just a day before the court verdict.
The meeting chaired by khaleda Zia decided to face the after verdict situation both legally and politically. The party would submit apeal on the same day if the verdict goes against Khaleda, meeting sources said.
The high level meeting approved the resolution adopted in Saturday’s national executive committee meeting of the party.
The meeting discussed as to how will party activities will run in the absence of Khaleda but decision in this regard would be taken leter on, sources added.
It is widely believed in the political arena that the court verdict is likely to go agansit Khaleda Zia.
The BNP termed the case baseless and motivated one and said it would resist any conspiracy to keep Khaleda out of the election process.
As part of her preparation, the former premier held a series of perleys from the last week with party leaders and leaders of 20-party alliance. – Staff Reporter
