A housewife, who was set ablaze by her mother-in-law on Thursday night, died here in the early hours of today after struggling with life for the past five consecutive days. According to police sources, the victim is Tahmina Begum, 30, wife of Abdul Mannan of village Dadon under Pirgachha upazila in the district.
Abdul Mannan, 35, son of Monte Ali of village Dadon married Tahmina Begum, daughter of Tafil Uddin of village Purbo Chondipur in the same
upazila about 12 years back.Since their marriage, husband Mannan, father-in-law and mother-in-law of Tahmina had been torturing her frequently on various issues and family feuds.On Thursday night, Mannan and his mother Alema Khatun were engaged in a quarrel when Tahmina tried to talk taking the side of her husband.At one stage, mother-in-law became extremely agitated on Tahmina,poured kerosene on her body and set fire when most portions of Tahmina’s body were severely burnt.The neighbours immediately rushed critically burnt Tahmina to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex from where she was shifted to the Burn Unit at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Friday.Following further deterioration of the conditions of Tahmina, the physicians at the Burn Unit of RMCH referred her to the Burn Unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).On her way to the Burn Unit at DMCH from Rangpur, Tahmina breathed her last in Mithapukur area under Mithapukur upazila in the district at around 2:45 am today.Pirgachha Thana police handed over body of Tahmina to her relatives after conducting its autopsy at the RMCH morgue this afternoon.
Golam Mostafa, brother of deceased Tahmina, filed a case in this connection with Pirgachha Thana, police has so far arrested the victim’s husband Abdul Mannan and efforts were on to nab the other accused persons.Talking to BSS, Officer-in-Charge of Pirgachha Thana Aminur Rahman
