Call for popularising eco-friendly ‘Bandhu Chula’


Speakers at a discussion here have stressed popularising the use of eco-friendly and fuel saving cooking furnace ‘Bandhu Chula’ to save huge firewood and improve public health and environment.
They were addressing a pre-rally discussion jointly organised by the Department of Environment (DoE) under assistances of German Development Cooperation (GIZ) in front of the office of deputy commissioner (DC) here on Saturday.The programme was arranged to celebrate the setting up of over 500,000 ‘Bandhu Chula’ so far at household level and enhance the use of cooking furnace throughout the country.With divisional manager of the ‘Bandhu Chula’ programme Bulmazun Sarker Bulbul in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shahidul Islam addressed the discussion and led the rally as the chief guest. Director of the DoE Osman Gani addressed the occasion as the special guest.A large number of ‘Bandhu Chula’ user housewives, members of the ‘Bandhu Chula’ programme, local entrepreneurs, volunteers, field level officials and employees of GIZ, DoE and other organisations, public and NGO representatives participated in the programme.The speakers put special emphasis on educating the housewives and common people for a proper use of the smoke-less, fuel-saving and eco-friendly ‘Bandhu Chula’ to save huge fuel and electricity for cooking purpose.
They called upon the common people, especially the villagers, for utilising the knowledge for preparing, popularising and properly utilising the fuel-saving and environment-friendly cooking furnace ‘Bandhu Chula’ in rural areas.The chief guest called for popularizing ‘Bandhu Chula’ among housewives in both rural and urban areas. -BSS, Rangpur
