State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Hoque Tuku on Thursday said the option for holding the national election under a caretaker government system has ended for good.“Constitutionally, the system of holding the national election under a caretaker government has become void forever,” he said while addressing a press briefing at the Khulna Circuit House.
The press briefing was followed by a views-exchange meeting on law and order in Khulna.
Tuku also came down hard on the opposition for ‘its violent activities’ in the name of hartal and urged them to return to parliament to discuss their demands. “The opposition is committing crimes and murders, and unleashing anarchy in the name of hartal,” he said.
The State Minister accused the main opposition of provoking Hefajat-e-Islam for committing atrocities in the name of Islam.
He said the government is strongly monitoring the activities of Hefajat.
“Jamaat and Hefajat are one in nature and inseparable. They’re committing atrocities across the country in the name of Islam,” he said.
“No sooner has the trial of the war criminals started than the opposition has been conducting anarchy and criminal activities. Ten police personnel have been killed in their hands,” he added.
Besides the law enforcers, he said the ruling party activists will stand against any anarchic, violent action by any quarter.
Parliament members Mollah Jalal Uddin and Khulna deputy commissioner Mesbah Uddin were also present at the briefing. UNB
