Charge framed in Jihad murder case against 6 people

Dhaka-The Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka on Tuesday framed charges against six people over the death of four-year-old boy Jihad in the capital in 2014. Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of the court framed the charges and the accused persons are: five engineers of Bangladesh Railway- Saiful Islam, Nasir Uddin, Dipak Babu, Abu Zafar Bidyut and Jahangir Alam while the remaining accused is Abdus Salam, a contractor (proprietor of M/S SR House). They are now on bail in the case and pleaded not guilty. The court fixed October 18 to start trial with recording the depositions of the witnesses in the case.
On December 26, 2014, Jihad died after falling into a 17-inch diameter abandoned shaft, near his house at Bangladesh Railway Colony in Shahjahanpur area of the city, while playing with his friends. His body was recovered by a band of local volunteers, the following day, around minutes after the concerned authorities called off their search of about 23 hours.
On April 17 of 2015, Shahjahanpur Police SI Abu Zafar pressed charges against Jahangir and Salam for the death. But on June 4 last year, the victim’s father filed a no-confidence petition against the investigation into the incident. Later, on March 31, this year, Investigation Officer of the case, Detective Branch SI Md Mizanur Rahman submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court against the six accused. -Special Correspondent
