BNP on Thursday termed the charges against its senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman as “bullshit stories.”
Addressing a press conference, standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan claimed that the charge sheet against Tarique Rahman was submitted to diver the attention of people from the misdeeds of the government.
The hurriedly call press conference was held at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office the afternoon on behalf of party national standing committee two days after a charge sheet was submitted by police against 32 BNP leaders including Tarique Rahman in an arson case.
Police on Tuesday pressed charges against BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman for “masterminding” an arson attack on a bus in Gazipur in January 21.
Nazrul Islam Khan also termed the allegations brought against Tarique Rahman imaginary and fabricated and demanded withdrawal of the charge sheet immediately.
The countrymen do not believe the allegation brought against him (Tarique). We condemn and protest such activities, he said.
The BNP leader said that the name of Tarique Rahman was not mentioned in the first information report (FIR) but name of 40 to 45 unidentified people were stated.
He questioned the logic behind inclusion of the name of a son of former premier in the list of unidentified accused.
“It submitted the charge sheet at that time when the government is embarrassed for conflict inside the party as well as alliance, fed up with murders, abductions, assaults of the women and when grabbing the assets of the Hindu community has crossed the all records,” he observed.
He said local people called an intersection as a “Tarique Rahman Moor”; for that reason government may plotted to bring the name of Tarique.
Khan urged the media not to publicize news story on slanderous news items against Tarique Rahman since the media is not allow to publish or broadcast his opinion.
“We urge the media not to publish any allegation against Tarique Rahman made by the ruling party men until it would not capable to circulate his self defence statement,” he said.
