Child rights must be ensured for worthy nation: Speakers

Speakers at a discussion here have stressed for ensuring rights of the children for their
normal growth and quality education to make them knowledgeable and worthy citizens for the future nation.
Terming children as the future of the nation, they said today’s children will lead the country in future and rights of every child to get congenial atmosphere and facilities for education, health care, foods, nutrition, shelter etc must be ensured. They were addressing the post-rally discussion organised by ‘Pollisree’, an NGO, under its ‘My Rights Campaign’ in observance of the Child Rights Week at Purbo Aviram Government Primary School ground in the outskirts of the city on Thursday afternoon. Sadar Upazila Primary Education Officer SM Arshad attended the discussion as the chief guest with Headmaster of the school Bhupen Chandra Sarker in the chair.
Project Coordinator of Rangpur Unit of ‘Pollisree’ Shahnaz Parveen,its Programme Facilitator Rezaul Karim and Filed Trainer Mizanur Rahman also addressed the discussion.
Earlier, a colourful rally, participated by the members of the school managing committee (SMC) and students’ council, teachers, guardians, NGO activists, local community leaders and public representatives and elite, was brought out in the area.Later, students of different government primary schools staged a demonstration with placards and banners in hands at Purbo Aviram
Government Primary School ground demanding formation and election of students’ council in every primary school.
A number of students also addressed the meeting expressing their feelings and views about how they want to get education in a very congenial and friendly atmosphere in their institutions and all other rights as ensured by the UN Charter. They said they want love, affection and care but not torture in any form and want to be the worthy, properly educated and healthy citizens to remember the memorable moments of their child ages when they become matured citizens to serve the nation.  The speakers urged the SMC members, guardians and teachers to work in a coordinated manner for ensuring child rights through providing quality primary education for all children and bringing the school dropouts to the zero level. –BSS, Rangpur
