City polls ‘farce’ should have been avoided: Charmonai Pir


The Pir Shaheb of Charmonai, Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said on Friday that the April 28 city election was a farce which the government should not have staged. Addressing a May Day rally of the Islami Sramik Andolan at the Press Club Square the Pir Shaheb said the nation witnessed in great despair the worst vote dacoity in history on the day.Mufti Rezaul Karim who is also the Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) said election was a very important process for healthy politics. The city election obstructed this important process of democracy. We have to pay a heavy price for this the Pir Shaheb said adding the 28 April election one again proved that free and fair elections in Bangladesh was impossible without a caretaker government. Had the election farce been known before candidates would not have spent their hard earned money for the same.
The Ameer of IAB said the workers were the most neglected today even though they are the main driving force of the state. The owners of capital increased their wealth manifold by utilising the servfices of the workers but have not given them their due. Workers today are the objects of neglect and deprivation, he said calling for the implementation of Islami labour policy to establish their rights.
Presided over by Moulana Fakhrul Islam, president, Dhaka city unit of Islami Sramik Andolan, the rally was also addressed by Principal Moulana Yunus Ahmad, secretary general of IAB and Moulana ATM Hemayetuddin, president, Dhaka city unit of IAB. – News Desk
