Activists of BNP and its associate bodies again chased a group of ‘Asol BNP’ supporters near the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Sunday, foiling the latter’s move to enter it.The BNP men also torched a vehicle in which ‘Asol BNP’ men kept loudspeakers playing a CD of poems of its chief Kamrul Hasan Nasim.
Witnesses said a group of 10-12 supporters of ‘Asol BNP’ brought out a procession and marched towards the BNP office from Bijoynagar Nightingale crossing around 3:45pm with a banner inscribed with ‘Showdown of Revolution’.
As they reached in front of Ananda Community Centre, some BNP and JCD activists chased them with sticks.
In the face of challenge, the activists of Asol BNP fled the scene.
Later, the BNP activists vandalised the loudspeakers kept on a pick-up van of and torched the vehicle.
The BNP activists also demonstrated in the area chanting various anti-government slogans. They alleged that the so-called ‘Asol BNP’ men are making efforts to capture BNP office as part of a government’s plot to split the party.
Officer-in-charge of Platan Police Station Morshed Alam said there was chase and counter-chase between two groups in the Nayapaltan area and miscreants set fire to a pick-up van.
Earlier on January 2, BNP men also foiled an attempt of a group of ‘Asol BNP’ activists to capture the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
