Country is loosing sovereignty, people can’t raise their voice: BNP

A senior BNP leader yesterday alleged that the country is loosing its sovereignty as people cannot speak about their rights.“In someone speaks on the rights of people, he/she faces the wrath from the government letting of repression sending them to jail or facing the incidents of killing or enforced disappearance,” said BNP standing committee member Brig Gen (Retd) ASM Hannan Shah.
Addressing a meeting at Jatiya Press Club, the BNP leader defended the detained journalists—Shafik Rehman, Shawkat Mahmud and Mahmudur Rahman and said their only offense was that they speak the truth.
“I demand their unconditional release as they had committed no crime,” he said.
The BNP leader criticized the prime minister for her comments that BNP has relation with Israel and said “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is talking whatever she like so since she was not elected by the people.”
Terming the Election Commission, government and administration as dacoits, he said three dacoits snatched the votes of people during the Union Parishad polls.
He said it would not require three or four months to oust the government; it may not take more than seven days.
The leader said the movement should be launched taking people and media with them.
“The government will be forced to quit through movement whenever eligible leadership would come in the party,” he said.
Online news portal organised the meeting to marks its three-year anniversary with its chief editor Abdullahil Masud in the chair.
President of Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (Jagpa) Shafiul Alam Prodhan, BNP leader Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Labour Party chief Mostafizur Rahman Iran, among others, also spoke on the occasion.-STAFF REPORTER
