Cracks found at RU newly constructed Motihar hall Probe committee formed


Several cracks have been found at newly constructed Motihar hall at Rajshahi University (RU).The cracks were seen in the different rooms of west block, roof, stairs and walls of the dormitory.Authorities concerned blamed low quality elements for building the hall.
Resident students of the hall yesterday staged a human chain in front of the hall demanding the punishment of the contractor and engineer of the hall at 1:00pm.
They also submitted a memorandum to the university vice chancellor to press home their three-point demands.The other two demands included rebuilding the hall breaking it immediately and managing the students’ safe resident within 72 hours.
However, a five member probe body has been formed headed by Dr Yunus Ahmed of Geology and Mining department, confirmed by Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, the university Pro-VC.“The committee has been asked to submit report as soon as possible”, he also said.Addressing at human chain, resident students told that they felt insecure to reside in the hall.They alleged that low quality equipments were using to reconstruct the hall.“The authority hardly take proper steps though resident students infomed them in several times”, students also alleged.RU Pro-Vice Chancellor said that the university authority along with chief engineer visited at the Motihar hall and different old buildings of the university.“We will take steps after getting report of the probe body”, he also said.Contacted, Sirajum Munir, acting chief engineer of the university said, cracks found at hall is out of risk.Hall sources said, the reconstruction of Motihar hall was launched in 2008 while the hall was built first in 1995.Though six years have already passed, the reconstruction works of the hall is yet to be ended.
